This year's Japanese Speech Contest organised by the Japanese Language Teachers Association of SA (JLTASA) will be held on Saturday 7 September.

This year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Australian speech contest. The aim of the contest is to encourage learners who are studying Japanese to showcase their language skills in a challenging context.

The winner of High School Senior division and Open Division will be invited to compete with other states/ territories winners at the Japanese Speech Contest National Finals to be held at the Japan Foundation Sydney Office on Saturday 12 October 2019.

Languages Alive! is a program of engaging and highly interactive language and cultural experiences for R-7 students. Delivered by highly proficient speakers of the relevant language, the program will run during the school holidays in metropolitan and country locations.

Who: Reception to year 7
When: October school holidays
Where: School of Languages 1 & 11 October
Cost: $10 per day; school card/healthcare card holders free

Various workshops will be held at each location, exploring a range of languages including Chinese, Japanese, German, French, Italian and Indonesian.

JAFA's annual Mid-Winter Dinner will be held on Friday 2 August from 6pm. This year we'll be warming up at Wasai Japanese Kitchen.

This is a great opportunity to meet other JAFA members, or those with an interest in Japan, and socialise in a relaxed environment. Everyone is welcome - you don't have to be a JAFA member to come along!

The cost is just $25 for JAFA financial members and $35 for non-members. Food is provided in a buffet form, with a vegan option available.

After the success of our Barossa Valley bus tour earlier this year, JAFA will be returning to Ubertas Wines for our Barossa Winery & BBQ event! The day includes a private return bus from Adelaide CBD.

JAFA will prepare a delicious slow cooked pig-on-a-spit for lunch, whilst the friendly staff from the family owned Ubertas winery will be on hand to supply their selection of wines.

When: Sunday 6 October (long weekend)
Departure: 10:50am sharp, Adelaide GPO
Return to Adelaide: approx. 7pm

Prices include private bus, food, wine and coffee. Self-drive and no alcohol options also available.
The tour is open to everyone, however spots are limited and bookings must be made in advance.
