SA History Week Henry Black Presentation PDF Print E-mail

Henry BlackAs part of SA History Week this year, JAFA presented a talk on the life of Adelaide-born rakugo story teller Henry Black in Transferring Democracy from Adelaide to Young Japan.

Munetaka Umehara, lecturer, translator and researcher of traditional Japanese arts and culture gave an illustrated presentation on the enthralling lives of John Black and son, Henry Black.

World Cup Soccer Party - Australia vs Japan PDF Print E-mail

On 17 June, Australia and Japan go head-to-head in their World Cup qualifer at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

As with the Japan-leg qualifier in February, JAFA will be holding a party for Australia and Japan supporters to gather and enjoy the game together broadcast live on the big screen.

This year's Nabe Night will be held on 11 September. It is one of our annual events held at the Sato Restaurant in North Adelaide.

Nabe (nabemono) is a soup/stew cooked at the table and enjoyed in the colder months.

Kodomo No Hi - Children's Day Celebration 

JAFA's major event each year is the Golden Week Japan Festival held to coincide with the Golden Week holiday period in Japan. The highlight of the festival is the Kodomo no Hi Children's Day.

Lets you enjoy a variety of exhibitions, displays and performances plus some great Japanese food! This year will be just as good with participants coming from Japan again.

Date: Sunday 2nd May, 2010

Time: 11am - 4pm

Place: Cowandilla Primary School, 1 Jenkins St, Cowandilla

Cost: Gold coin donation

The programme for Children's Day includes lots of Japanese music, Japanese dancing, games, kites, tea ceremony, martial arts, exhibition of ikebana, Japanese food, Japanese trains (further information about the trains at an external site) and mochitsuki (pounding rice cake using traditional implements).

Access

The school is very easy to get to by bus. From the city, take the J1 or J3 bus (the airport buses), which stop on the southern side of Grenfell and Currie St.  There's a bus every 15 minutes. The closest stop is 6 on Sir Donald Bradman Dr, although the stop before (stop 5c) is also a very short walk to the school.

Annual Dinner & AGM 2008 PDF Print E-mail

In 2008 JAFA is celebrating its 10th anniversary and we've decided to go back to the future for our Annual Dinner. One of the first events we held was a Sushi Night so this year we'll be doing it again though with a little more style.
